Trevor and Heather Wurtele - About Us

We both caught the triathlon bug in 2004 after spending a couple years adventure-racing. Trevor was a very competitive ski racer until he was 16, then moved to road cycling with numerous amateur European outfits til he was 20. With Heather’s help in the pool, Trevor finally managed to swim a steady 3.8km in 2004. Trevor helped Heather get going on a road bike that same year, she was naturally strong from her rowing background, but took a while before she could take her hands off the bars to shift. Things have come a long way since then!
Both of us had exceptional years in 2008 - Heather won the North American Ironman Championships - Ironman Coeur d'Alene while still working full-time as a scientist with Natural Resources Canada. Trevor raced to a 8:50 Ironman in Ironman Arizona while working full-time as a currency trader. In February of 2009, we decided to bite the bullet and fully commit our dream of being World Class Long Distance Triathletes. We sold our home in Victoria, bought an RV, and traveled to southern California to train full-time.
We live on the road with 100% passion to our sport (and our cat Manah) and have already made steps on our rise to the top - In 2009, Heather was 5th at the prestigious Wildflower Triathlon, and 3rd at Ironman Coeur d'Alene, 2nd at Ironman 70.3 Lake Stevens, and the 2009 Canadian Long Course Champion. Most recently she won the inagural St. George Ironman with a bike time over 17 min up from second palce. Trevor broke into the top 10 in a deep field of pro men, placing 6th at the 2009 Ironman Coeur d'Alene, was 13th at Ironman St. George, and is one to watch for at Ironman Canada in 2010!
